A little about this blog, it should be fun but it may not be regularly updated.
I am an active college student nearing graduation this next March of 2010 hoping to adventure outside of the ordinary. I will be graduating with a degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences and have begun to realize just how much culture dictates what we have access to. For instance, jobs, particular parties, some education opportunities, and many pieces of information which others have no understanding of.

These social and cultural values, traditions, and entitlements are commonly referred to as either Cultural Capital or Social Capital. Cultural Capital are things which only a particular culture calls their own. Rednecks have Nascar and Turdunken while Wasps have... well I don't exactly know I didn't grow up with that type of culture surrounding me. Social Capital are those social connections such as friends at church and the local store which help when needing to burn up a stump or fund a school trip. But they also can be your Daddy's business friends and their friends' other friends who vouch for you regarding a job or educational opportunity which wouldn't have been available to just anyone. To say this simpler Cultural Capital is valuable within your culture when relating to others. Additionally Social Capital is valuable during social situations present in your Culture.
The down side of the identification of Cultural and Social Capital in your life is that invariably you wonder what you may be missing.
Main Point
The idea of this blog is to adventure into Cultural Capital in the most exciting way possible. No not though tedious explanations of social theory but by collecting those experiences and adventures from all walks of life. This could be camping, hiking,... sailing or deep sea fishing.
Many people form for themselves the idea that a particular adventure is too far out of their reach and therefore impossible. So, I will attempt to adventure where no farmer's son from Ohio has gone before. Currently I am beginning what can only be called an interactive quest for social capital in recreation. Come, be my guest as I attempt to find the fun we have all been missing.
Give me advise on my adventures, see equipment guides, hear advice given to me by the professionals and experts, and watch as I capture the rush of adrenaline, the sting of failure, and the luxury of yachting like a true heir of wealth.
